Shift your focus to a new perspective.
I’ve been painting landscapes outdoors in oils since 2009. I like the depth and intensity of color that oil paints have. Repeated patterns and dramatic lights and darks capture my attention. There is an immediacy to paintings done in the fresh air.
Painting outdoors in nature provides many challenges: Racing against time to capture the shifting light before the scene changes, dealing with heat, wind, bugs, and the unexpected. I like being absorbed in nature and in the painting I’m trying to create. I love creating a 3-D scene on a flat surface.
I work hard to portray the poetry of the scene and leave out mundane details. I want my art to tell a story of delight, to capture the mood of the landscape.
Often there is a perceived sense of softness about my work. Though the painting may have a sense of softness about it, the goal is to capture beauty that packs a punch of emotion.
I simplify nature's complexities to create a feeling of calm delight. I invite you into my paintings to shift your focus away from your cares to see a new perspective.
